4 -Year B.E Degree course in Marine Engineering DG Shipping approved, Govt. of India. On
successful completion of this course the trainees can join as Marine
5th Engineer. After 6 months sea service & passing MEO class IV exam
promoted as 4th engineer and then 3rd Engineer. After 12 months sea
service & passing MEO class II exam & sea service promoted as
2nd engineer. With further sea service & passing MEO class 1 exam
eligible to be promoted as Chief engineer.

Life on board Ships : Ships move along the coast and across the oceans and carry different types of cargoes. Number of persons working on a ship depends upon its type, size and its trade. The number of persons can range between 6-30 and greater number on passenger ships. It is important for each person to be able to work independently as well as in a small team. Physical health, agility, good habit, and discipline are very important qualities required of a seafarer. One needs to be willing to work with hands, in different conditions, be safety conscious, and be able to stay away from home and friends for few months at a time.
COURSE CONTENT: The course is conducted over 3 stages as follows: | |
STAGE 1: | 4 -Year B.E Degree course in Marine Engineering in DG Shipping College. |
STAGE 2: | 9 Months Sea Service as a junior Engineer |
STAGE 3: | Class IV Exam – Written & Orals – 2 to 3 months |
Eligibility: | (a) Pass in (10+2) or equivalent
examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as
separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60% (b) Candidate can join 2nd year of 4-Year Marine Engineering Degree Course provided he has passed 1st year training from the Alternate Training Scheme, approved by D.G. Shipping (This will not be applicable to MERI.) (c) Candidates can join 2nd year of 4-Year Marine Engineering Degree Course who have passed 1st year from the Engineering College in other streams like Mechanical or Electrical approved by AICTE with minimum 60% average marks. (d) Candidates can join 2nd year of 4-Year Marine Engineering Degree Course who have passed 3 years Diploma Course in Mechanical / Marine / Electrical / Electrical and Electronics, from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 55% of aggregate marks in the last year of Diploma Course. A candidate can join 2nd year of 4 Year's Marine Engineering Degree course who have passed 4 years Diploma in Shipbuilding Engineering from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 55% aggregate marks in the last year of diploma course The candidates should have obtained with minimum of 50% marks in English language at 10th or 12th Std. or in the Degree / Diploma course conducted by recognized Board or any University. |

Selection Procedure: | Candidate will undergo an aptitude and written tests followed by an interview. The final selection will only takes place after medical check-up through our panel Doctor. |
